2017 OVGA Senior Women’s Intersectional Team
The OVGA Women’s Senior Intersectional event was completed on Monday, August 28th at Pembroke against teams from Pembroke, Algonquin, and Metcalfe.
Our team was again in tough competition. However, everyone on the team scored at least 2 points. Well done! Although we did not win, we earned enough points to remain in our current division and will be playing at Metcalfe next year. Thanks team – especially our co-Club Captain Jill Finlin who led the scoring by earning 5 points.
The Pringles’ Cup was awarded to Anne Queen and her caddie Joanne Gosewitz and was shared with the team. Many thanks to Liz Roberts and Penny Wells who drove to Pembroke to support the team and to offer refreshments. Thanks to Greg and Paul White who also drove to Pembroke to support the team. Thanks also to the caddies – Joan Barriault, Joanne Gosewitz and George Acton.
2017 OVGA Senior Men’s Intersectional Team
Cedarhill Men competed in the OVGA Senior Men’s Intersectional event on Tuesday, September 5th. This year’s event was hosted by Cedarhill Golf and Country Club.
The team played very well against three very strong teams from Buckingham, Pakenham, and Sand Point. Finishing third this year means that Cedarhill will remain in Division D next year which will be played at Sand Point. Congrats to a great effort by all members of the team which included: Bob Austin, Scott Brewster, Jim Brown, Bruce Delaney, Gary Froats, Gerry Hoeft, Pierre Ladouceur, Ross McEwan, Greg Nezan, Ron Nezan, Tom Pulcine and Martin Wells. Special thanks to Jim Niles who caddied for Greg Nezan. Thanks to Greg White for taking care of the starting and scoring duties for the day. Kudos to Mary Wells, Greg Nezan, and Gerry Hoeft for taking 6 points each. Also, thanks to Greg Robertson and his team for hosting a great event which included a delicious BBQ provided by Chef Nathalie.
2017 Club Championships
The Cedarhill Club Championship was held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 and Sunday, August 20, 2017. Forty (42) members took part in what were two great days of golf with very nice weather. There were 20 ladies and 22 men.
The ladies finished first, starting with the D-Flight. After two days of competition, Connie Froats and Penny Wells were tied with a two-day gross score of 231. Connie won the D Class Championship in a one-hole playoff. The C-Class champion is Bev Goold with a two-day gross score of 197. The B-Class champion is Lee Whelly with a two-day gross score of 192. Last to finish was the A-Flight and after two days of competition and a two-day gross score of 175, the 2017 Ladies’ Club Champion is Liz Curran.
Starting with the D-Flight for the men, the D-Class Champion is John Toccalino with a two-day gross score of 182. The C-Class Champion is Terry Mason with a two-day gross score of 173. The C and D Flights were played from the “white tees”. The A and B flights were played from the “blue tees”. The B-Class Champion is Tom Pulcine with a two-day gross score of 173. The A-Flight had an exciting finish. Of course, when the final group arrived at hole 18, the patio was full of other participants, other non-playing members, spouses, and friends.
Everyone watching was treated to an exciting finish. The final four players teed off 18, all tied for the lead. As they arrived at the 18th green, Greg Nezan was at the back of the green laying 3, Bob Austin just off the bottom left of the green laying 2 and Marty Wells hitting a perfect approach shot was laying 2 about 12 feet below the cup.
First, Greg chipped and based on his body language, hit a poor shot, but the ball hopped on the green and rolled across the top of the green and dropped into the hole for a par. Next, Bob Austin chipped and got it up close to the cup to be now laying 3. Marty Wells then was next to go. Marty then brought an end to the competition by rolling in his putt for a birdie to win the Club Championship by one. Marty’s two-day gross score was 158. With that birdie, our 2017 Men’s Club Champion is Marty Wells.
There were prizes for low nets. The winners were:
Ladies’
1st low net: Susan Gillean (144)
2nd low net: Anne Queen (145)
3rd low net: Karen Acton (146)
4th low net: Jill Finlin (150)
Men’s
1st low net: Scott Gerrard (134)
2nd low net: Jeff Goyette (140)
3rd low net: Greg Nezan (141)
4th low net: Richard Lessard (142)
This year on Championship Sunday, we added a fun golf event for those members who prefer not to play in competitions but still want to join in the fun. The random draw winners for the fun event were Rene Douville; Martin Buckley; and Christine Buckley.
The random draw winners from the Championships were: Stephanie Lemaire; Hannah Chiarelli; Gail Nezan; Jean Broadfoot; Larry Weatherley; Peter Finnigan; George Acton; Luis Ferreira; and John Cook.
With a beautiful sunny day, we had a party on the patio. There was a large turnout of many non-playing members, spouses, and friends. Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable time. There was a BBQ and an opportunity to participate in the games of chance.
The first game of chance was “cut cards draw”. There were four winners of $40 each, they were: Lee Whelly; Hannah Chiarelli; Luis Ferreira; and Sandy Finnigan.
The 50/50 draw winners of $150 each were: John Goold and Jean Broadfoot.
Another new event this year was a betting game. There were 11 teams created with two ladies and two men with equal team handicaps. Anyone could place a $5 bet on any or all teams. The gross scores of the Sunday round determined the winning team of low gross. The winning team made up of Karen Acton, Stephanie Lemaire, Marty Wells, and David Green won with a total team score of 85 over par. The following individuals each won $80 having bet on the winning team: Susan Gillean, George Acton, Luis Ferreira, Karen Acton, Greg White, Marty Wells, Christine Buckley, David Green and Gary Froats. To further enhance the betting game Greg Robertson donated RedBlacks tickets with only the betting winners having a chance to win. Luis Ferreira won the tickets.
Our thanks to Cedarhill G&CC for offering food & beverage specials after the round on Sunday.
Enjoy the pictures.
2017 Senior Club Championships
The Cedarhill Senior Club Championship was held on Saturday, August 5, 2017, and Sunday, August 6, 2017. Forty (40) members took part in what were two great days of golf. There were 18 ladies and 22 men.
The Ladies had a very exciting finish with two ladies tied for low net after 36 holes of golf, with a net score of 141. Susan Gillean and Miriam O’Grady took part in the three-hole playoff but remained tied. They continued for a fourth hole, in which Susan prevailed and therefore became the Cedarhill 2017 Ladies Senior Club Champion. Susan also recorded the low gross with a 2-day score of 175 and will represent Cedarhill in the OVGA Tournament of Champions.
Miriam then finished second and Gail Nezan with a score of 142 finished third. The low gross also needed to be decided by a sudden-death playoff, given that Susan becomes the low-net winner and can only hold one trophy. Liz Curran and Sandy Finnigan returned to the 18th hole after finishing tied with a two-day gross score of 178. Liz won the playoff on the first hole played.
The Men’s event was also very tight, with only one stroke separating the top two low-net players. Gary Froats is the 2017 Men’s Cedarhill Senior Club Champion, with a winning low-net 2-day score of 134 – 6 strokes below par. John Toccalino was one stroke back at 135. Denis Verdon was third with a score of 140. The low gross event was very tight with 5 players within four stokes. Jim Brown won the low gross and will represent Cedarhill at the OVGA Tournament of Champions, winning with a 2-day low gross score of 157. Honorable mentions go to Bob Austin (158); Marty Wells (158); Greg Nezan (159); and Ross McEwan (160). The random prize winners were: Karen Acton; Jean Chiarelli; Bev Goold; Connie Froats; Bob Nugent; Ron Nezan; Al Violini; Bruce Delaney; and Larry Weatherley.
Enjoy the pictures.

Congratulations to a great effort by all members of the team which included: Karen Acton, Joan Barriault, Liz Curran, Sandy Finnigan, Susan Gillean, Kathy Pope, Danielle Ryza and Anne Queen. 2017 Mixed Club Championship
SOLHEIM CUP – RYDER CUP – JUNE 10, 2017 – EVENT SUMMARY
Solheim Cup 2017
On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the women played in the Solheim Cup. The Solheim Cup is a team event with two (2) teammates playing matches against the opposing team. We had 20 players in total, therefore two teams of 10 players each. The matches are played using 3 golfing formats of 6 holes for each format – Best Ball (holes 1 – 6), Alternate Shot (holes 7 – 12) and Scramble (Holes 13 – 18). After the 5 matches were played, the Red team came out victorious, although many of the matches were so close that they could have gone either way.
Everyone had a wonderful day of golf and fun, with the photos of the winning team and the second-place team below, along with the scorecard.
Joan Barriault won Closest to the Rope on #1 and Kathy Pope won Closest to the Pin on #14. Bev Goold, Dini Nugent, Joan Barriault, Kathy Pulcine, Lee Whelly, Liz Curran and Mary Betts were our draw prize winners.
WINNERS – RED TEAM – Susan Gillean, Lee Whelly, Connie Froats, Liz Curran, Anne Queen, Renate Rodgers, Karen Acton, Dorothy Price, Carole Myers, Jean Chiarelli
Ryder Cup 2017
On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the men played a new event – the Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup is a team event with two (2) teammates playing matches against the opposing team. We had 28 players in total, therefore two teams of 14 players. The front nine was played as a two-man scramble and the back nine a two-man net-best-ball and after the 7 matches were played, the two teams were tied.
Everyone had a great time, but the men failed to take any pictures, other than the scorecard. Despite what Greg White wrote on the scorecard, both teams won.
George Acton won the closest to the pin on #5 and Ross McEwan won #14. Jim Niles, Jeff Avery, and Bob Austin were the winners of our three random draws.
Mixed Chapman Scramble – Post Event Note May 29, 2017
The sun came out for our 2017 Mixed Chapman Scramble where we hosted 50 golfers on an absolutely beautiful day for golf.
This was a competitive, yet fun event with the following winners declared at the end of the day:
1st Low Net – Penny & Marty Wells
2nd Low Net – Jill Finlin & Gerry Hoeft
3rd Low Net – Danielle Ryza & Jeff Avery
4th Low Net – Sandy & Peter Finnigan
1st Low Gross – Joan Barriault & Bob Austin.
The skill event winners were as follows:
1. Closest to the Pin on #5 – Ladies – Kathy Pope
2. Closest to the Pin on #5 – Men – Bob Austin
3. Closest to the Pin on #14 – Men – Martin Buckley
Additionally, there were a couple of fun events during the competition. The first event was ‘Guess your Score’, won by Pierre Ladouceur & Wendy Buchanan. The ‘Mini-stick Closest to the Pin on #8’ was won by Sandy Finnigan. Sandy’s shot stopped 6 inches from the pin – perhaps the Sens could have used her shot in the last game!
The random draws ($15) were won by: Anne Robson, Wendy Buchanan, Connie Froats, Patricia Downey, Kathy Pulcine, Tom Pulcine, Rene Douville, George Acton, Hannah Chiarelli & Don Betts.
Thanks to Karen Acton for organizing the fun games. We also want to thank all the staff at Cedarhill for all their support.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our next event – Solheim – Ryder Cup on Saturday, June 10th.
Enjoy the pictures!

Opening ‘Get Acquainted Scramble’ – May 13, 2017
This year, we held Cedarhill’s first member golf event of 2017 – the Opening Get Acquainted Scramble. We had thirty-three (33) golfers participate, however, given the weather forecast, we did have a few cancellations.
Although the focus was on fun, we acknowledged the winning foursome with a low round of 65. The winning team was: Connie Froats, Jim Niles, Ron Nezan, and Ross McEwan. The most honest foursome, scoring 76: Joan Barriault, Anne Robson, Nathan Dagenais, and Jack Dagenais.
Justin Scanlon won the ball drop – throwing a ball onto the 18th green to the hole – some 60-70 feet away and having the ball find the bottom of the cup. As it turned out, it was only the second ball toss of the day. Justin is reconsidering his putting stroke!
As well, Richard Lessard, Ross McEwan, David Green, and Judy Genereaux found our four aces in Chase-the-Ace — each receiving $50! Kathy Pope, Jill Finlin, Anne Robson, Kathy Pulcine, and Nathan Dagenais were the winners of the random draw from $25 to $15.
Finally, a special thanks to Karan Acton for organizing the fun games. We also want to thank all the staff at Cedarhill for all their support.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our next event – Mixed Chapman Scramble on Saturday, May 27th.

Mixed Chapman Scramble – May 26, 2018 – Post Event
Well, it was a good thing that 43 of us didn’t listen to the weatherman, otherwise, we would’ve all stayed home and we would’ve missed a very enjoyable day of golf. Other than a bit of drizzle for a hole or two, the weather didn’t hamper our enjoyment at all.
We had 43 golfers participate in the Mixed Chapman. Our thanks to Susan Gillean who stepped up and did double duty, partnering two of the guys. Susan’s game must be very consistent because she shot a gross 76 with John Imperiale and a gross 76 with Justin Scanlon. Well done!
The low gross and low net was shot by Anne Queen and Ross McEwan with a 70 gross and a net 62. Given that this is a “net” event, they took home the first prize money for “low net”. Therefore after applying retrogression (there were two tied for 2nd low gross), Liz Curran and Scott Brewster took home low gross with a score of 73. Other winners were: 2nd low net of 63 to Claire Paquin & Tom Pulcine; 3rd low net of 64 to Penny & Marty Wells; and 4th low net of 64 to Stephanie Lemaire & Richard Lessard.
As part of the event, everyone was asked to guess their net score before teeing off. The three pairings that correctly guessed their score were: Diane & Frank Turner, Kathy Pope & Pierre Ladouceur, Renate Rodgers & Lawrence Tapper (who won the prize by a tie-break). Winning closest to the pins were: Ladies’ #5 – Wendy Buchanan; Men’s #5 – Gerry Hoeft; Ladies’ #14 – Susan Gillean; and Men’s #14 – Gerry Hoeft.
The random draw winners were: Gary Froats; Mary Betts; Susan Gillean; Lawrence Tapper; Lee Whelly; and Connie Froats.
Special thanks to Greg White and Barry Laphen for doing the scoring. Greg Robertson, Operations Manager, Chef Nathalie, and all the clubhouse staff for their support.
Opening Get-Acquainted Scramble – May 5, 2018
We had a great start to the 2018 Cedarhill Member Event year with the Opening Get-Acquainted Scramble. After a very cool and rainy spring, we finally got a Saturday with warm weather. Although it was cool to start, by mid-round it had warmed up and by the end of the round, it was warm enough for people to enjoy Cedarhill’s beautiful patio.
There were 60 golfers, with 53 members and 7 Cedarhill staff joining in, which almost doubled last year’s participation of 33 golfers.
Although the focus was on fun, we did acknowledge the winning foursome with a low round of 64. The winning team was: Kathy Pope; Lawrence Tapper; Ryan Puttman and Matthew Arthur. The most honest foursome, with a score of 76 was: Anne Queen.
Member News 2020
Welcome to our 2020 Membership News! Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the Playing Committee decided to hold just the Club Championship events. This unfortunately meant that we were unable to hold any of the “fun” events that have become very popular, such as our Solheim-Ryder Cup and Member-Guest shotguns. Despite the challenges, we celebrate the resilience and achievements of our members during this unprecedented year. Join us as we reflect on the highlights and accomplishments of our golfing community.

The Club Championship was held on August 8 and 9, 2020. We had 19 Ladies and 19 Men that participated in the two-day event.

Senior Club Championships
The Senior Club Championships were held on August 30 and September 5, 2020. We were rained out on Saturday, August 29 so we needed to hold the event over two weekends. We had 16 Ladies sign up and 15 Men. Given the change to the schedule, 3 ladies and 3 men had to withdraw. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility with the difficulties caused by the rescheduling. On the ladies’ side, Sandy Finnigan won low-net at 149 and low-gross at 173. Liz Curran was 2nd low-net at 150 and Maureen McLewin was 3rd low-net at 152. On the Men’s side, Tom Pulcine won low-net at 144 and Marty Wells won low-gross at 156. Terry Mason was 2nd low-net at 147 and Peter Finnigan was 3rd low-net at 148.

Getting Acquainted Scramble
The 2024 members’ event season kicked off on Saturday, May 11, 2024, with the Getting Acquainted Opening Scramble. We had a great turnout with 100 golfers. There was an opportunity to win prizes on the course with the closest to the pins and other games of skill and chance. After the round, everyone got together in the banquet hall to enjoy a complimentary lunch provided by Cedarhill. We played chase-the-ace (and jacks) with the following winners: Josh Lee; Lyle Tallon; Frank Blackmore; Mary Weatherley; Donna Tallon; Kelsey Reid; Tom Pulcine; and Karen Shephard. To add to the fun, we also sold tickets for a putter draw and a cash draw. Pat McCarthy won the putter with Mike Dover; Nathan Dagenais; George Acton; and Barry Gregory taking home cold hard cash. Mike McNeil; Maureen McLewin; Jose Pasian; Grant Mercer; Dale Weatherley; Simone Petriw; Anne Robson; Luke Posthumus; Mike Campion; Seeta Neal; Wendy Buchanan; Braden McLean; Rick Burnett; and Nick Larkin all won random draws. We think it is fair to say that everyone had a good time. Oh, by the way, Jake Duff; Mike Poirier; Kevin Valade; and Josh Lee won the event.

Cedarhill Teams at the OVGA Intersectional
The Ottawa Valley Golf Association (OVGA) Intersectional competitions are administrated by a host club in collaboration with the OVGA. They are considered by many to be the most exciting and competitive events on the OVGA schedule each year. In these events, teams play head-to-head matches with accumulated points determining the winner of each division. If your Club wins the division, you move up next year. If you finish in 4th (last place), your club moves down a division. The 2nd and 3rd placed teams remain in that same division the next year, with the 2nd place team hosting that division.
On Sunday, July 7, 2024, the Men played in Division I and we hosted, the other teams were Canadian, Casselview, and Mountain Creek. Cedarhill Team was made up of Martin Well, James Kerr, Bob Austin, Greg Nezan, Allen Violini, Scott Goudie, Tom Pulcine, Gerry Hoeft, Ross McEwan, George Acton, Bob McGahey, and Jim Brown. The team finished 3rd and will remain in Division I in 2025.

Green’s Committee
This past season was very challenging for Mike Rennie, our course superintendent, and his team. Although we got lots of rain, they still managed to keep the course open and playable. Additionally, our fairways on the back half of the season were probably the best that we have had in years. We have been very fortunate as Cedarhill has had great greens for many years as compared to other courses in our class, thanks to Mike and his Team.
While being very busy with the course maintenance due to the rain, they still managed to do some of the improvements that had been on the list for a while such as:
- The cart Path on #1 was repaved
- The white Tee box on #7 was resurfaced
- Balanced the Sand traps so that they are more consistent
- #9 green surface has been improved
- New trees planted on #14
- Greens and Tee boxes punched
News From The Leagues
Men’s League
Membership grew to 118 golfers this year, despite many Thursdays spent dodging the rain. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our sponsors—without their support, we wouldn’t have been able to offer such exciting prize tables at each Men’s Night or create the incredible final prize table that capped off the season so well.
Our sponsors this year were Cedarhill Golf & Country Club (Matt Willman), Labatt Breweries, Calabogie Brewery, TD Financial (Brad Myers), Morguard (Mike Swan), Fitness Depot (Paul Posthumus x2), Divot Golf, McGee’s Barbershop (Paul McGee), Meadowlands Roofing (Jack Dagenais x2), Maillet Engineering (Mike Maillet), Brokerlink (David Sim), Full Wedge Golf, Speedy Auto/Novus Glass (Mike Dover, also raised $2000 for Ronald McDonald House), Triple Bogey Brewing, Barrhaven Ford (Francis Blackmore), Ottawa-Carleton Mortgage (Bill Gosewitz), Silverwoods Golf and Lounge, and Ridge Rock Brewing Company. Thanks again.
We would also like to thank Cedarhill’s general manager, Matt Willman for the support that we received from the course. Thanks go out to Mike Rennie and all his staff for maintaining the course in excellent playing conditions throughout the year. Next and certainly not least, we would like to thank our ticket seller without whom we would not have been able to have the tremendous final prize table that we had, Erin Kryvenchuk.
The winner of the Ray Markle trophy, which goes to the player who achieves the highest individual points for Men’s Night scoring, went to Ross McEwan. The winners of the George Malone trophy and the bragging rights that go with it were the team of Glen Somerton, Paul Zeitoun, Ted Purnell, and Richard Lessard. Congratulations to all the winners.
Have a great winter. We hope to see you all next year for another super year.
Business Ladies League
Here are the highlights of our 2024 season. We had fewer members than the previous year, with our league ending with 82 members in total: both full-time and 1-day members playing either 18-holes or 9-holes. We plan to stay with the lower numbers next year to have some wiggle room with the tee times. If you are a full member and want to join our league, send me an email at kactonl@outlook.com. Our season kicked off with our opening social on April 23rd which included an online game of Kahoot focusing on rules & etiquette; it’s always lots of fun. Our regular Tuesday afternoon/evening golf started April 30th and the final scheduled date was October 8th.
We have a wide range of golfers, some just starting, others more experienced, and everyone in between. Our shenanigans, both skilled and just for fun, run each week which allowed everyone to participate regardless of their skill. Our weekly random prizes are drawn and won by members who played that week. New this year, our weekly 50/50 changed to being able to pre-pay for the season which saw an upswing in the weekly winnings; proceeds of this support our prizes and year-end banquet.
Our league has a Member Guest, held this year on July 9th, and had 92 participants. Our theme changes every year, this year we went on Safari. The event is a fun-filled event, with lots of prizes, a putting contest, best-dressed and best-decorated carts, on-course skill prizes and more. The day ends with a 3-course meal in the banquet hall.
As part of the league, we track and award prizes for who had the most chip-ins and birdies. We track bettering your score through our Ringer Board and award trophies for both low gross and net scores. Our Business Ladies Cup trophy event is played over 3 months using 1 score from each month, there is a trophy for both gross and net. Our Team Golf trophy is awarded to the team that has the highest total score over the season.
Our season wrapped up with our Closing Banquet on October 15th. All members received a gift of choice, we had draws for door prizes, 50/50, wine baskets, and the trophies were announced.
The following members were in the spotlight…
- Kate Burnett-Isaacs – Most birdies, Ringer Board’s lowest gross, Business Ladies Low Gross
- Louise Boulet – Business Ladies Cup Low Net
- Barb Brown – Most Chip-Ins
- Diane Heroux – Largest Drop in Total Score
- PJ Finestone – Most Improved Golfer for the second year in a row
- Karen Acton, Wendy Buchanan, Stephanie Lemaire, Gail Nezan & Anne Queen – Team Golf (Pictured)
And my final note is to thank and acknowledge our committee which is made up of Jill Finlin, Stephanie Lemaire, Gail Nezan, Wendy Buchanan, Barb Brown, Holly Thomas, and Karen Acton. Jill Finlin looks after all our prizing for the league, and she is assisted by Maria Dilay, Holly Thomas, and Anne Queen.
Senior Men’s League
The season opened this year with a breakfast meeting on May 2nd which was well attended by the majority of our 48 members. There was quite an influx of new members coming from Stonebridge and Manderley. These new members suggested they may recruit some additional players. Good news for the league. Our new sponsor manager continued his great work in securing more sponsors for the Senior Men’s.
On the competitive side, the two-day Havelin Cup was won by David Keay with the low net. Gerry Hoeft had the low gross over those two days. This year we continued with a one-day Ryder Cup that was renamed the Douville Challenge in honour of the late Rene Douville who was president of the league for an extended term.
Other member accomplishments include Bob McGahey with the most improved Handicap Index, Bruce Delaney with the lowest Average Gross Score, and Peter Harocurt with the lowest Average Net Score. The closing luncheon was held on October 17 where these members along with the winning teams were recognized for their achievements. Thanks to Matt, Ken, and all the staff for the good food and great service.
Everyone is looking forward to next summer and with recent inquiries for new members I expect that next season we will meet our membership cap of 48 members again. Thank you to all those working at the club for their efforts in making this an extremely successful season. Let’s hope the winter is both warm and short!
Day Ladies League
Our Day Ladies League had a good golf season, despite the rain and wet conditions. Most Tuesdays we played 18 holes and enjoyed lunch and table talk with our friends. Our competitions were held throughout the summer and prizes and trophies were given out at our closing lunch.
For 2024 our trophy events winners are:
- Winner of the Handicap Matches: Deanie Nugent and Runner-up Judy Genereaux
- Winners of the Davis Cup Matches: Kathy Mongeau and Lorraine Higgins; Runner-Up: Penny Wells and Helen Picciano
- Winner of our Tombstone: Susan Gillean and Runner-up Deanie Nugent
We held many other competitions throughout the summer; congratulations to all the winners and everyone for participating. Many thanks to those who helped manage the various events this year – Michi Small, Susan Gillean, Judy Genereaux, Maureen McLewen, Seeta Neal, Gini Purnell, and Robbie Dempster
Many thanks to our Pro, Greg White, and his staff for their hard work and friendly faces. A special thanks to Chef Ken for the great food choices and to all the staff that served us so well every Tuesday. Thanks to Matt Willman and everyone at Cedarhill for continuing to make this a special place to play golf and enjoy our friendships.
Here’s hoping next year will be sunny and dry for our Day Ladies League.
Year-End Celebration
Like the 2024 opening, we had a very good turnout for the 2024 closing event. We had 84 golfers and a number of others who joined us for dinner.
It was played on Saturday, September 14. There were all sorts of ways to have fun, starting with chipping and putting contests, on-course games, pitching into a floating pool on the pond in front of the 17th tee, wine draw, and a cash draw. With the generosity everyone showed by buying into the games before and during the round, we raised $690.00, which is being matched by Cedarhill for a total of $1,380.00 in support of the three food banks: Barrhaven; Kanata; and FAMSAC.
After the golf, we all enjoyed a bountiful dinner at a variety of food stations, while the prizes were doled out. For those who wanted extra entertainment, Richard Lessard set up his karaoke equipment.
Final Words
The Playing Committee has already been hard at work, creating a full schedule of member events for 2025. If you haven’t yet had a chance to join a member event, we encourage you to ask around—these gatherings are a fantastic time, and we’d love for you to experience at least one or two next season.
As we look back on this past year, we want to share our heartfelt gratitude. First, a special thank you to Matt Willman, Cedarhill’s Operations Manager, whose dedication and support have been invaluable. Matt and his team go above and beyond to make sure our member events are truly memorable. A big thank you also goes to our Pro, Greg White, who works tirelessly to ensure our events run smoothly, and to Barry Laphen, our Associate Pro—together, Greg and Barry make Cedarhill proud with what we consider to be the best Pro team in Ottawa.
We’re deeply grateful to Mike Rennie, our Course Superintendent, and his crew for maintaining the course in superb condition, despite the challenges of wet weather this year. Our thanks also extend to Ken, our Head Chef, and his kitchen staff for the delicious meals that have become a highlight of Cedarhill events.
To the Pro Shop team, Back Shop, starters, and course marshals—thank you. You create a welcoming, seamless experience that makes playing at Cedarhill such a pleasure. And lastly, our warmest thanks to our waitstaff. Cedarhill has the best bar and restaurant staff in the city, always quick with a smile and ready with our favourite drink, snack, or meal. Your warmth and attentiveness make Cedarhill feel like home.
