The Senior Men's Intersection Team started strong and finished strong at Smithsfalls Golf Club yesterday. Gary Froats, one of our alternates, scored a 6 point victory to start the day. Roy Prokopuk and Greg Nezan finished with a 6 point and 4 point total respectively, to catapult us to a second place finish behind the Host Club. The other two teams were from Prescott and Buckingham. Congratulations to all the team members and thank you to the members and staff that came out to support the guys!
The debris fence constructed on hole number 12 along the out of bounds line will be dismantled and taken away over the next week. A barrier will be erected inside the easement to stop balls from getting to the owners property. Please stay on this side of the barrier even if your ball is on the other side.
The Cedarhill version of the Solheim Cup will be played this weekend. Let's hope for good weather for the ladies. A fun event for all participants. Click here to view the players!
Sept 7th
Senior Intersection at Smiths falls today. Dick Chiarelli is unable to play and will be replaced by Gary Froats. Scott Brewster admitted himself to hospital on Saturday and will also miss the event. Good luck Scott - everyone hopes you get well soon.

Congratulations to Greg White and Barry Laphen who finished tied for second place at the Pro/Pro yesterday at Smiths Falls Golf Club.
Looks like it is going to be a little warm today for topdressing so we are fertilizing and watering. I will update everyone when the weather allows for topdressing.
The Senior Intersectional Team will be playing on Tuesday September 7th at Smiths Falls Golf Club starting at 11:00 am. Representing Cedarhill will be: Greg Nezan, Roy Prokopuk, Gerry Barbeau, Tom O'Driscoll, Tony Fosbery, Dick Chiarelli, David Green, Sandy Farrell, Gary Froats and Scott Brewster. Good luck guys!

Good News! The fall aeration went very well over Sunday evening and today. Greg and his crew are just finishing up. They closed only two greens at a time and worked their way through the golf course. The procedure included aerating the greens with a 3/8th tine, dragging the cores, blowing off the residual grass and double rolling the greens before putting the flags back in for play.
The rest of the procedure includes a light top dressing of the greens starting on Tuesday (weather permitting) along with fertilization and lots of water.
It's going to be a hot week. The marshal's will be carrying extra water so flag them down if you feel the need.
Aug 25th
The Legends three week Ryder Cup matches wrapped up yesterday. Team Saddington put a beat down on Team Murdoch 39-21. The winners all received a little cash, thankfully not enough to affect their amateur status.
Historically the Legends have not been known for their negotiating skills as witnessed by the trouncing they received last year from Greg and Barry. A new negotiater was appointed this year and the Legends came through and righted the wrongs from the past. In total they raised over $300.00 for our junior program. Well done guys!
Barry Laphen shot a final round 69 on the North Course at Hylands to win the CPGA Senior Zone Championship. Barry was low round for the day. Greg White finished in fourth place with a final round 74.
There have been quite a few questions about the putting green and it's present condition. The green is under a great deal of stress from algae. This a product of overwatering and humidity. Greg will be aerating, topdressing and overseeding that green on Thursday, weather permitting. He has adjusted the watering schedule for that area.
The cart path signs on Holes #5 and #14 have been relocated to the tees. Those on Hole #9 will stay in place. The signs on hole #15 have been removed. Carts are allowed on that fairway and rough. There will be directional signs to keep carts at least 10 yards from the green at all times.
Please remember to either fill or replace divots and fix balls marks!
Aug 21st
Just a reminder to everyone that we will be aerating and top dressing the greens starting on Sunday August 29th around 5:00 pm. There are a couple of events that day so Greg and his crew will be starting on the back nine. The plan is to matt the cores then remove the debris. Top dressing will commence around mid week after the greens are allowed to gas for a few days.
Fall membership specials are starting this week. Posting of the specials will hit papers and the website shortly. There are specials for new members and existing members. Stay tuned!
Starting Tuesday September 7th any member bringing a guest will receive a 30 percent discount on the regular green fee price. Guests must be accompanied by a member to a maximum of three per foursome.
Aug 13th
Friday the 13th. A very lucky day! Men's Member Guest Day will be teeing off at around 1:00 pm.
We are putting on a blitz over the next few weeks about divots and ball marks. Replace, sand and repair. The marshals and starters will be speaking with everyone!
Congratulations to the winners of the Junior Club Championship:
Boys 18 hole Champion - Steven Moran (defending Champion)
Girls 18 hole Champion - Dawn Turner (defending Champion)
Boys 9 hole Champion - Derian Cockell
Girls 9 hole Champion - Michele Turner
Boys 3 hole Champion - Owen Verdon
August 11th
Course washrooms are repaired and operating normally. We are working on long term solutions to the issues that have developed. We will be diligent in the short term with regular inspections outside of normal cleaning and maintenance.
We are moving towards the fall and that means wasps and migrating geese. Greg and his staff are eradicating wasps nests where ever they can find them. If you notice anything please report it to either a marshal or the Pro Shop.
Greg and Greg will be stringing our ponds shortly. Please do not pull at the strings. They will be there to stop geese from landing. We will be diligently running the dogs all fall and will be using noise as a harassment tool. Our strategy has reduced the permanent numbers of geese this year. We hope our fall strategy will be as successful!
The issues we have had with lack of normal rain and the lightning strikes which caused many days and nights of work for the maintenance crew in repairs to the irrigation system have left some areas of the course under a great deal of stress. We will be closing a few of the tees for aerating, overseeding, top dressing and fertilization.
August 9th
We have been having problems with the new washrooms that are apparent to everyone. Greg and I are working toward a long term solution. The bowls have to be replaced and parts have been ordered. Sorry for the inconvienence. I will be happy to explain the technical side of the problems to anyone who wants to speak with me. The problems were not apparent and have taken some time to identify.
Member Guest Day Friday August 13th. There are a few spots left! Sign up at the Pro Shop.
Another hole in one. Craig O'Reagan hole #14 white tees with a 9 iron on Saturday August 7th. Witnessed by the McNaughton's and Burnett's. We hope Craig's head wasn't hurting too much on Sunday morning.
August 2nd
I have an update from the Prez. The hole in one on 9 was scored by Mike and witnessed, kind of, by Greg and Fred. Mike used a 5 iron.
Some more good news. Sandy Finnigan broke the 80 mark for the first time. She shot 78. Well done Sandy! Congratulations to Kate Burnett, Morgan McHardy, Erin McHardy for their excellent play in the Ottawa Citizen Amateur Golf Championship.
It was brought to my attention that Danielle Ryza recently celebrated Birthday number xx. Another successful year.
Our new Senior Club Champion is Howard Seward. Great playing for such a young fellow. On the Ladies side the victor was Lee Whelly. Low Gross for the men was Tony Fosbery and Low Gross for the Ladies was Dini Nugent.
Men's Member Guest is Friday the 13th. Sign up now!
August 1st
After two lightening strikes in 10 days that took out our irrigation, computers, security system and a host of smaller devices, I am glad to say that everything is up and running again. Our main concern was irrigation, but we had a full test of the system last night and everything is working except for a small break in the electrical line around 3 tee. Greg has isolated that area and it will be repaired next week.
Congratulations to Dan Barlow (Pro Shop and Back Shop). Dan hit 3 wood on Hole number 15 on July 28th into the cup for his first career ace. Dan didn't see the ball go into the hole and was looking for it at the back of the green. He was set to call the "top flite rule" (most lost and found ball) when his playing partner Matt Brennan looked in the hole and found the ball.
Dave McNaughton witnessed a hole in one on Thursday July 29th on hole #9. Dave didn't actually see the ball go in and could not remember the name of the golfer who hit it or his playing partner's names. Sounds like the Prez to me!
The Men's bus trip toured to Smuggler's Glen this year. Thanks to Brad for organizing the day and providing the entertainment on the bus ride ride home.(enough said about that). Dan Farant was the low gross winner and Scott Gerrard was low net. Thanks to Bobby Bent for the magnificent job he did as Washroom Sargeant at Arms on the Bus ride home. A very important role!
July 23rd

I hope that you see a differnce in the green speed these days. Greg has stemped the greens at about 9.5.
July 22nd
Business Ladies Member/Guest Day was fantastic. The weather was great, costumes and cart decorating were excellent. Lou Nelson rocked the house and an excellent meal capped a memorable day.

This years theme was the Year of the Tiger - GRRRRRR.
July 20th
Fifty-six hard charging, grinding golfers battled it out at the Cedarhill Cup over three days last week. Team Stallion captained by Len Damiano were the victors. The final score was 48-40.
Business Ladies Member Guest Day is today and the weather looks like it will be cooperating. The Legends are traveling this week to Mapleview Golf Club outside of Perth. Have a great day guys!
Cedarhill is hosting the Junior Intersectional on Wednesday. Len and his team are looking forward to participating again after an absence of a few years from the competition.
The Senior Club Championship and Intersectional tryouts are this weekend. Good luck to all the participants.
Greg and his crew top dressed 16 fairway yesterday and part of 13. They are embarking on a program to inprove the playability. They also dropped the cutting heights of some equipment for greens and first cuts.
Men's Member Guest Day posters will be up shortly. You can sign up and pay in the Pro Shop. Friday August 13th. We have a few surprises in store.
July 9th
Just a reminder to everyone that Intersection Competition for the Men will take place at Greyhawk Golf Club on Sunday. Good luck to everyone on our team. The Ladies play Monday at Cedarhill. Call the Pro Shop for times. Come out and cheer on our team.
It's been hooooooooooooooooot! We recognize the importance of keeping everyone hydrated so we have provided water on the beverage cart all week. Thank you for patronizing the Club during these hot times.
We have had our challenges from broken air conditioners, power outages, computer problems, washroom issues. Our outside workers have been sent home early but they are working hard in the morning to keep the course in good shape.
During heat spells tempers get a little short. If you lose your temper a little more easily, that's human nature. If you need to vent on someone please come and see me. I have big shoulders!
July 6th
After two rounds of the Ottawa Citizen Amateur Golf Championship, Kate Burnett is presently in 8th place. Morgan McHardy is in 23rd and her sister Erin is in 29th. One round to go.
July 3th
Wow! What a great Canada Day Scramble. A little windy and a touch cool at times but an overwhelming success. The dunk tank foursome would like to thank all the members who participated. $105.00 was raised for the Junior Program. A big thank you to Mike Latimer and Tanya for all the work they did to make this event succesful. Event pictures will follow shortly.
Just a reminder to all our members and customers! Please stay off the property of our neighbours. Cedarhill is a golf course community. We co-exist with our neighbours and it is important that we respect their property. If there is an issue please do not take it up with our neighbours. I am available to discuss issues with you.
We sent an announcement by email a few days ago to all our members. If you did not receive it please contact Kathy to update your email address. We have had a few changes to our grounds crew lately. Debbie Savard has moved to the maintenance crew to replace Hannah who left to take a job with the City of Ottawa.
June 22nd
Breaking news right off the press from the OVGA. Our very own Greg Nezan (Gimpy) finished fourth low gross at Brockville Country Club in the Senior Men's Field Day. Well done Greg!
June 21st
Hole in one on Sunday June 20th. Brett Verdon playing with his father Bob and two Uncles aced the 14th with a 7 iron. Bob was not happy as he felt on Father's Day it should have been his!

Looks like the our new sign on 12 has disappeared. It is disappointing that instead of coming to talk with us someone felt they could dispose of the sign. I can assure you that it will be put back and affixed permanently.
Please take a look at the Members portion of the website to see the Men's and Ladies Intersectional Team and the results from the Mixed Chapman.
Remember to sign up for Canada Day. Just in case you were not sure of the date it's Thursday July 1st. Lots of fun. Bring your friends.
June 14th
I think most golfers have seen the sign on the 12th tee. You are reading it and I am getting feedback. Some good, most not so. Let me explain! The courts do not care whether the homeowner or the golf course was there first. We have a duty of care to mitigate possible damage or saftey issues. The sign does not say you cannot hit a driver. We just want you to think about the possibles consequences if you do. I realize that there are many golfers that cannot hit the ball that far; if that is the case for you, please disregard the sign.
Congratulations to all who tried out for intersectional teams. It turned out to be an excellent weekend and a good competition. At some point the committee will provide me with the results and they will be posted.
The next two weeks will be busy around the Club. If you cannot get a tee time remember we have the reciprocal arrangements and the Mem Links program.
June 3rd
June 2nd was a big day at Cedarhill. We had our first hole in one of 2010 season witnessed by the infamous Mike Latimer. The skilled player was Terry Pulcine on Hole #5 using a 5 Hybrid. Also witnessing was his wife Irene and Nancy Paquette. Mike also had a close call on the same hole- he only missed the green by 45 yards!
Love is in the Air at Cedarhill!
Our very own PJ Little is officially engaged to Morgan McHardy. Morgan and PJ were playing golf at Le Geant in Mont Tremblant. When Morgan took the pin out of the cup on #18, she saw something strange in the cup. A Diamond! PJ was quickly down on one knee. Congrats to both. They are scheduled to be wed at Cedarhill on July 16th, 2011.
Big game tonight in the NBA. A finals classic. Lakers & Celts in LA. Go Lakers!
June 1st
Rain Glorious Rain! What a departure from last year. Today's wet weather will help the course and in conjunction with that we are verticutting greens today. Tees are being verticut on Thursday then they will be overseeded and fertilized.
Greg Roberston and his crew are working through the issues that come about with learning a new watering system with few historical records. They are getting a handle on the system and the spots that have not been getting enough water are fixed and should be recovering shortly.
I have been tracking weekend play times and I am happy to report that in the month of May average play times up to about 2:00 pm tee off times were less than 4:15 and closer to 4:05. Congratulations! This is a benefit to everyone.
The Steak & Ale TGIF is going to be held on Friday, June 11th. Currently there is a wait list. We will be confirming attendance by the end of this week. Put your name on the list - there are always last minute cancellations.
Two months into the season and not a single hole in one? If that is not the case, please send me the information so I can proclaim to the world "your greatness"!
If you need your Clubs regripped see Greg White. He still has an early season special going.
May 21st
Greg and his crew have solved the watering system issues and are watering everything now. There were mechanical issues as well as electrical. The activation of the sprinkler heads are controlled by electrical signals coming from the computer. Finding breaks or failures in this buried electrical wire is painstakingly slow. All the small holes around 12, 13, 16 & 17 are from digging to expose lines to determine where the break may have occured. Breaks can occur for many reasons such as roots, rocks, frost, etc.
Looks like a wonderful long weekend on the way. Planting has started around the Clubhouse and will continue on the course over the next week.
Question of the Day: Why can't I take my pull cart between the bunker and the green?
Answer: If your pullcart could get there on its own, it wouldn't be a problem. On their own they do no damage. Everyone walking through the same small area creates a pathway. There is more pressure per square inch from you than a pull cart or piece of equipment.
Nice rebound for the Habs on Thursday. Saturday afternoon game! Thanks to Gary and the braintrust for that scheduling!
May 19th
I have had a few comments about things being a little dry. Greg and his crew are working through a series of small problems with the irrigation system. The course is getting watered and there is no immediate concern. Enjoy those nice fast greens!
The Handicap Championship is next weekend. Last chance to sign up this weekend. The TGIF scheduled for June 11th is sold out. A waiting list is posted on the Social Board. We will be calling everyone a week out to confirm their participation. There are always cancellations.
The RCGA cards have arrived. Kathy is working on getting them prepared for the season. They should be out shortly.
Hab fans don't lose faith! Coming home on Thursday.
May 16th
Renovations in the Clubhouse have been completed. The carpet tile was installed, the bar got a facelift and the electrical panel work was completed. Thank you for your understanding.
Punching of the greens was completed on Friday. Those who played this week noticed almost no effect to either the conditions or inconvenience. The greens were doubled rolled afterwards.
This week Greg will be fertilizing fairways, continuing to spray for weeds, finishing the work on sand traps and starting to verticut and over seed tees. Please remember to help Greg make our course better by filling in divot marks with the sand&seed we provide for pull carts and power carts. It really helps. Greg and his crew will also be working on cosmetics such as gardens and weeding.
If you are interested in playing in the Handicap Championship on May 30th, it is not too late to sign up.
May 10th
The carpet is being installed and the work on the bar will begin this evening. As mentioned last week there will be a power outage tomorrow morning from 7:00-9:30 a.m. There will be no phone service during this time. Remember there won't be power in the Clubhouse so plan on bringing your backup shoes on Tuesday morning.
Punching of the greens will start on Tuesday evening following the ladies and continue on Wednesday. There will be no disruption of play either day.
Please remember to fix balls marks, replace divits and sand divots when possible. It benefits everyone.
May 7th
On Monday, May 10th the main entrance and lobby area will be closed for the day. The old carpet is being replaced by new carpet tile. This job will last all day and be completed on Tuesday morning. Access will be through the main banquet room to the lounge. Access to the ladies washroom will be from the lounge area. Access to the Men's locker room will be from the walkway at the front of the building.
The bar is also getting a facelift the same day. The draught taps will be taken down and draught will not be available until Wednesday.
On Tuesday, May 11th there will be a planned power outage from 7:00 am to 9:30am. This will allow us to switch power to a new panel that can be hooked to a generator that will run our communication systems in the event of power interruptions. Take your golf shoes home if you plan to play early on Tuesday morning. This outage will affect the phones at the Pro Shop. Nathalie has confirmed that the kitchen will be available 1/2 hour after the power is turned on and there will be no effects to the Business Ladies or GAL League.
Greg has installed wiring around the ponds on 16 and 17 to prevent the geese from escaping into the water when he is running the dogs. The goal is to drive them back to the marsh area. If your golf ball rests close to the pond please drop a little farther back so your club does not impact the wiring. There is no penalty.
Great News. Greg is not going to "ruin" the greens by aerating and top dressing next week. He will be punching the greens with a solid tine starting Tuesday evening after the Ladies and continuing Wednesday. There will be minimal disruption and the punch holes will quickly disappear.
May 3rd
Looks like some warmer night temperatures are finally here. We should start to see a little more seed take and growth recovery over the next few weeks. The cool and dry weather for the the last two weeks have knocked back the course recovery a little. The remainder of the resurfaced benches will be on the course by the end of the week.
Greg Robertson and his crew are working on bunkers. Most of the edging is finished and the process of taking sand out some bunkers and depositing into others has begun. Greg has mentioned that there are a few wear areas that are developing so he will be routing players a little differently.
The sand and seed containers on tees, carts and pull carts are being kept full. Please use them. It helps improve play conditions for all.
Looks like the first official week for both Men's Night and Business Ladies. The GAL Leagues and CWGI are also starting this week. Lots of returning and new faces. Please take time to say hello to our new members.
Click on the Golfers Links button on the right side of the main website page. The Mem Links program should be of particular interest to all Cedarhill Members.
April 29th
Great news! Looks like good weather for Saturday. The draw for the get acquainted scramble will be done Thusrday evening and posted on the website Friday. Last minute entries need to email cedarhillplayingcommitee@yahoo.ca.
Work is underway on the 10th hole. Sodding of the temporary area from last years construction. should happen on Friday. The red tee area of number 2 has been stripped and leveled. It will also be sodded on Friday. Areas effected by raccoons and crows on the 11th and 12th fairways have been repaired and will be sodded at the same time.
The course washrooms in the are open. A portable has been placed at the back of 15 green and will remian there for the remainder of the season. The sinks in the newer washrroms will be replaced shortly
April 27th
There has been a little bit of confusion concerning the Get Acquainted Scramble scheduled for Saturday May 1st. It is a shotgun start at 9:00am. Breakfast starts at 7:30 until 8:30ish. If you have signed up please just arrive in the morning and Scott and his organizing committee will let you know who you are playing with. If you have not signed up you can still do so in either locker room or by emailing cedarhillplayingcommitee@yahoo.ca.
I have received a little feedback concerning Clubhouse service. Effective Saturday May 1st we will be in full summer service. This includes hours of operation starting at 7:00am, summer menu, Saturday night limited menu during weddings and our monthly specials. If you have any requests or feedback please contact Frank Jolicoeur at frank@cedarhillgolf.com
Spring Fling TGIF is Friday May 7th starting at 5:15. This is a great time to bring out a guest or neighbour and show off the club. Sign up on the Social Board(located just past the bar) or by email with Tanya tanya@cedarhillgolf.com. Check the website for more detail.
April 24th
The time of frost is almost over and we will be moving back to 7:00 am start time as of Saturday May 1st. Don't forget to sign up for the get acquainted breakfast & scramble on May 1st. It's not too late.
The watering system is up and running and we are still working out a few little bugs. The early start this year will benefit us in another way. The sod farms are already cutting sod so we will be removing the temporary green area on number 10 fairway and sodding it this coming week. Leveling work on the front of the the red #2 tee will also begin. Always weather dependent of course.
Over seeding of tees and damaged areas will start this coming week. Night time temperatures have not been condusive to good germination up to this point. The greens have been firm and relatively quick. Your gollf ball is not making much of a mark which is good. Please be attentive to look and fix when neccessary. It benefits everyone!
Busy week ahead for member activities. Business Ladies Opening Social and Fashion Show takes place on Tuesday April 27th in the Clubhouse. On Thursday April 29th the Senior League will have it's official start and Thursday Men's Night will start for scoring rounds. Long range forecast looks pretty good.
If you have a friend who is thinking about joining they should contact us this week. The HST on things like membership kick in on May 1st. Oh joy!
April 22, 2010
Open for three weeks already. I hope you have taken advantage of the good weather and excellent playing conditions.
The Opening social was a success. Dave Milliken and Lou Nelson did a great job entertaining the crowd and the casino dealers did an equally good job losing to all the patrons(just kidding this is not the Masters).
Greg Robertson and his crew are working on improving the already excellent conditions. They are busy edging bunkers and will soon start moving sand around to make all the bunkers more consistent. Some bunkers will have sand removed and some will be added to. Greg also is spraying for weeds and treating for grub problems that our friendly racoons have pointed out with a little digging.
The goose strategy is working so far. Greg's trusty dogs have been running geese for weeks now and the beacons which disturb their sleep patterns have been postioned in the ponds. The program is having the desired effect so far.
HST deadlines are fast approaching. Anyone that still has outstanding payments or usually buys green fee tickets has until to May 1st to purchase. Hst for individual purchases does not take effect until July 1st.
The Get Aquainted Breakfast & Scramble takes Place on Saturday May 1st. Breakfast starts at 0730 with golf at 0900. This event is open to all members and league participants. Sign up is in either locker room or by emailing cedarhillplayingcommitee@yahoo.ca
April 4th
I hope everyone is able to enjoy some part of the Easter Weekend with their family. We are very busy today with a huge turnout for Easter Brunch.
Our Superintendent rolled the greens and we are getting some really great feedback from our Members and Guests. Cleanup of debris and work on the course is ongoing. Greg is working on getting the watering system up and running but it looks like mother nature will beat him to it for the next few days. Isn't there some adage about April showers and May flowers?
Enjoy your golf! Remember to stretch out those winter muscles before playing.
April 2nd
The show is underway. First groups teed off at 0800 to sun and a liitle morning breeze that was keeping things fresh. Greens were cut at spring height and Greg's crew is managing a few small water system issues on the course today. The course is dry enough for carts. There is still some winter debris around but most of that will be gone over the next week.
Start times is for the next few weeks will be 0800hrs. The course is in good shape and will only continue to get better. Come out and enjoy the Holiday weekend start!
March 27th
The golf course will be opening on Friday April 2nd. First booked tee time will be
9:00 a.m. unless weather permits earlier play. Members can start calling for tee times on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m. Everyone else can start booking on Wednesday.
Pro Shop number is 613 825-2186 ext 1.
The course is in good shape for such an early spring opening. Greens have very liitle winter damage and will all be open. The short cold snap will not affect conditions in a negative way. The course is fairly dry but we are expecting rain this week.
We will make the call on whether power carts will be available for use closer to the opening. I will post availability daily on the website. Weather and conditions usually dictate the reason to not put power carts out.
Good and bad news - Easter Brunch is sold out. If you are a small group of 4 or less we do have a waiting list. We unfortunatetly have no way of accommodating any larger groups. Mother's Day Brunch and Dinner are now filling up quickly. Menus and pricing are available under the events banner.
March 16th
It's been awhile since my musings have appeared on this website. Our new Superintendent Greg Robertson has informed me that if all goes well, we will be opening the course in early April.
Greens, fairways and tees have survived nicely. Work has begun on the course including clean up of winter damage and removal of greens tarps.
Greg and Don (Mechanic) have been working diligently to ensure all our equipment is in proper working order for the upcoming season.
Greg White and PJ are in the Pro Shop everyday so if you have any questions, give them a call.
The new season is almost upon us. I hope you are excited - I know we are!
