LOCKER ROOMS
Spring cleaning will soon begin in the locker rooms. All members who have not removed their locks or cleared out their lockers are asked to do so by March 18th. This will ensure cleaning can be accomplished on schedule.
OPENING SOCIAL/CASINO NIGHT
Plans are well underway for the Member's Opening Social - Casino Gala. Be sure to mark Friday, April 20th on your calendar. Feature entertainment for the evening will be James Kirkham and his “Legends of Entertainment” floor show, considered by many the ultimate in impersonation. Also returning once again to Cedarhill for this venue will be The Rainman. This will be an evening you won’t want to miss.
The cost is $15.00 person, with cocktails beginning at 7:00 p.m. Book by April 1st and receive an extra $250,000 in ‘casino money’.
COURSE EXPANSION
A final community meeting regarding the proposed sub-division is planned for April 10th in Cedarhill’s banquet hall. This should be the last public forum and hopefully, this Spring could mark the turning point on final approval by the City. We will keep you updated.
SIMULATORS
Now is a great time to get your game “in shape” in preparation for the upcoming golf season. Make use of our simulators, and of course Pat and Greg are always available to help iron out those kinks.
NEWS FROM THE PROSHOP
Hello to all the membership. I hope everyone is wintering well as we just now start to get the brunt of cold and snow with spring supposedly around the corner. The simulator’s are still hopping and will be open right up until the end March if you’re looking for a warm place to loosen up the old golf muscles.
We will be opening the Proshop as usual for Easter Sunday this year and hopefully the course will not be too far behind. I’ve gone in a little different direction this year with clothing for Men’s & Ladies as we had a tremendous year in 2006. I’ve broadened the clothing lines and styles with the help of feedback from some of the more frequent shoppers. I’ve ordered more technical pieces (Drifit or moisture wicking material) and more vibrant designs especially in the ladies line.
New for equipment in 2007 are the Nike Sasquatch Sumo2 and the Callaway FT-I and FT-I Tour. I mention these because they are using “Square Head Technology”. Both are moving weight around the perimeters of the club to allow for the most forgiveness possible. Callaway also has a new Fusion driver, the FT-5, which Phil Mickelson and Charles Howell III have both used to win on tour this year. Annika Sorenstam and newly signed Callaway player, Ernie Els, will also be using the FT-5 this season. Still in hot demand from last year are the hybrids including new in the shop this year, the #1 customer choice from Golf World Magazine, the Adams. We’ll also have new Callaway, Ping, Cobra and Nike hybrids in all different lofts and shafts including women’s, men’s and senior’s.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon whether it be for a round on the simulators or a drink to say hi.
PLAYING COMMITTEE (Bill Gosewitz & Lee Whelly, Club Captains)
IN LIKE A LION….OUT LIKE A LAMB?
Spring is almost here – as I sit and watch the biggest storm of the season approach – I can’t help but think – it won’t be long now.
Firstly our thanks to Tom Bowie – for the great service he performed to the club over the past many years and I am pleased to count him as one of the members of this years Playing Committee. His sagely advice is greatly appreciated.
Lee Whelly and I have taken over the Club Captain position as co-captains. Our playing committee consists of Laura MacHutchon, Dan Farant, Glen Clarke, David Green, Tom Bowie, Brad Myers, Lee Whelly, Greg Chambers and myself Bill Gosewitz.
Our first tournament is the GET AQUAINTED on April 28th. This is an excellent opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. We would love to have everyone come out for breakfast at 9:00 a.m. to be potentially followed by an 18 hole scramble. The entry fee is $15 (covers breakfast and prizes). If the weather does not co-operate, come anyway. We will have entertainment and competition in the clubhouse. To register, sign up in the clubhouse or send us an email at playingcommittee@rogers.com.
All other tournaments will have registration sheets in the clubhouse areas. There will be some tournament schedule changes from what you received earlier this year – please watch for the details in the April Newsletter.
We will have voluntary entry fees to the Championship tournaments this year. We are hopeful everyone will participate. The fees will provide for a prize table and possibly a food component. The sign up sheets will outline the details and players will be asked on the first tee if they wish to participate. If they do, then we collect on the first tee. If they don’t, then they will play for the opportunity to win the Championship trophy but will not be eligible to participate in the prize table. Remember, everyone is out for fun and relaxation.
PS. Please don’t be upset if I ask your name – I am great on faces but terrible on names . . . but I will get better!
SENIOR MEN’S COMMITTEE (Alan Bentley)
Gentlemen - As I write I see that the forecast is for rain on Saturday and above zero temperatures right through to March 16th. Spring is on the way and that means golf soon. My friendly chipmunk was poking his head above the snow and sunning himself the other day. The cardinals are singing in the morning and the bluejays are being seen more frequently. Yes, signs of spring! Your committee is preparing plans for this season and we look forward to seeing you all again for our Thursday morning outings. Be sure to pencil in Thursday, April 26th on your calendars for our Senior Men’s Opening Breakfast.
I trust you have all had a good winter and if you have made any new contacts for our Senior group, bring then out to Cedarhill. See you soon on the green!
SOCIAL COMMITTEE (Mike Latimer, Chair)
Greetings and welcome to 2007. As you have seen from the 2007 event schedule, a lot of work has already been done to ensure another fun-filled year of activities for the members of Cedarhill.
The primary focus of the Social Committee this year is to become more member driven and to promote and encourage increased participation within our existing and growing membership. Of the many great events that took place last year, it was evident that most were supported by the same faces. These events are held for the benefit of all members of the golf course and their guests.
I would like to personally invite any member who has not participated in any of the past Social Committee events previously to give it a try. You never know …it may be contagious. You may see different sides of your colleagues that you never knew existed. And heaven forbid, you might have some FUN!!!!
I would also like to solicit some participation on the Committee itself. With more people involved, we can communicate better within the membership groups. If you can spare an hour or two each month we can always use some fresh views and opinions. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I can be reached at mlat@sympatico.ca.
And as my old Aunt used to say…” I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!!!”
