APPOINTMENT

We are pleased to advise the appointment of Roger Stanion as a member of Cedarhill’s Executive Committee for the 2007 season. Roger rejoined Cedarhill in 1997 and is an active member of our Thursday morning Senior Men’s League. As a Director at Large, Roger will sit as Executive’s liaison to the club’s Social Committee. Please join me in welcoming Roger to the team.

IN MEMORY

It is with sadness we advise the passing of Gord Scott on Monday, January 15th. Gord was a long time member of Cedarhill, served on many committees and was appointed as President of the club for the 1983-84 seasons. As an active member of the golfing community. Gord also served as President of the OVGA and was the founder of the Ottawa Valley Junior Intersectional Golf program in 1985. Our expressions of sympathy go out to Gord’s wife Joyce and family.

MEMBERSHIP

We are pleased to advise a continuing relationship with Callaway Golf whereby we will be offering newly initiated members of the club the opportunity to receive a set of Callaway X20 Golf Irons and a Callaway carry or cart bag. This offer is more fully detailed on our web site and some restrictions apply.

Apart from the above, for those of you who have yet to renew for the 2007 season, just a reminder that the first instalment is now overdue.

Unpaid balances carry an interest penalty of 2% monthly.

SIMULATORS

Our two indoor golf simulators are up and running for the 2007 season. Two new projectors have been purchased ensuring sharp and realistic images of the 40+ golf courses available for your enjoyment. The projectors won’t improve your golf score but that can be addressed by our club golf professionals Greg Chambers and Pat Laderoute. Give them a call, book your tee times on the simulators (a great venue for a small party) or take a lesson to ensure you keep your game in shape over the winter season. Watch for details on the season ending “Simulator Challenge” open to members only. There’ll be great prizes for those participating.

CLUB EXECUTIVE (Sandy Farrell, Club President)

The subject of charging entrance fees for competitive golf events at Cedarhill has been under review for a number of months. As you are aware, the Executive approved a motion presented by the Playing Committee last fall for the temporary implementation of mandatory entrance fees for events administered by the Playing Committee. The notion behind the charging of a mandatory fee was that the fee would serve to increase camaraderie and competitive spirit within the events and, ultimately, the club. Any undistributed funds would be returned to the membership at the wind up of the season. Feedback has been gathered from the membership and at a meeting of the Executive held on Monday, January 29th, the following motion was presented to the Executive by your Playing Committee and approved.

Motion

That the Playing Committee hereby:

1. request and receive the mandate from the Club Executive to charge fees for events

2. undertakes to complete the necessary advance notices to the membership regarding each event and associated fees, detailing the purpose of the fee i.e.; BBQ or other form of meal or entertainment, prizes, prize tables, etc.

3. undertakes to ensure that funds collected at any event are redistributed for that event and that unexpended funds will be put into the Executive account for distribution to the benefit of club members

4. presents fees for the prize table/social component of any championship event as voluntary and that competitors not participating in the paying of an entry fee for that component cannot share in any prize distribution/social component (e.g. meal) other than the normal trophies awarded to the winners in their respective categories

5. requires further funding to support internal issues, these funding requirements and issues are to be submitted to the Executive Committee for consideration and approval

As you will note, the fee issue is approved as a voluntary process for events administered by your Playing Committee. It is hoped, that over time, all members will welcome this initiative for its ultimate purpose, that of creating camaraderie and spirit within the club, and fully participate in the overall programs put forward by your Playing Committee.
