TEE TIMES DISTRIBUTION

“Tee Times” is now available on the web and given the number of “hits” on our web site it is clear that this media is becoming the media of choice. As a result, beginning with the September 1, 2006 edition, we will be confining distribution of hard copies of the publication, in a revised format, to the clubhouse area. Monthly mailings will be discontinued. If you have not had an opportunity to view “Tee Times” through the web, please give it a try. If you require assistance in navigating through the web site, please don’t hesitate to give the office a call.

COURSE ETIQUETTE

We have received a number of comments with respect to the lack of policing on the course when it comes to dress code infractions. Our dress code policy is clearly stated at the Pro Shop and in the Club House. Pro Shop personnel are diligent in advising our public play component of this code and our Player Assistants are continually on the watch for infractions. Unfortunately, there will be times when individuals slip through the monitoring process for a number of reasons. Please assist us in maintaining the dress code at Cedarhill by reporting incidents you witness to the Pro Shop.

On the subject of etiquette, there has been an increase in cart infractions i.e. bringing carts inside the “no cart” areas of the course, usually near or on the fringes of the greens and although not marked, on the tee decks. Unfortunately, these infractions do not always relate to our public players. Please do your part to ensure these areas of the course remain protected from cart traffic. These “no cart” areas relate to power and pull carts and we ask you to do your part in ensuring our areas around the greens remain protected. Please report incidents to a Course Assistant or to the Pro Shop.

FIRST AID/EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES

Unfortunately, we have had minimal response to the proposed symposium scheduled for Saturday, June 10th. As a result, we have been forced to cancel the session. A number of members indicated the date and time of day was not the most convenient time for a symposium and have offered suggestions ranging from a weekday evening during the golf season to a time frame after the golf season has ended. At this stage, given the response, we are unsure as to the level of interest in such a symposium. We will investigate the possibility of rescheduling to a later date and also will give some thought to providing you with a brief outline of what our internal emergency procedures are.

PLAYING COMMITTEE (Tom Bowie, Club Captain)

On Sunday, July 9th Cedarhill will be hosting the OVGA Section “F” Intersectional Matches against Gatineau, Champlain, Kingsway. The “host” club is the club which finished 2nd in its section the previous year. Due to Gatineau’s course construction process, Cedarhill was offered the opportunity to host the 2006 matches. This is not an insignificant effort as it impacts regular play at any club involved. However it is an opportunity to be part of the golfing community and to support “your” team. The Cedarhill Executive and Management have approved our hosting of this event in 2006. These matches not only involve the best golfers from each club but attract many spectators cheering on their teams. Cedarhill members have always come out to support “their teams” and to create an involved party atmosphere. So join in the fun and support your team.

The Cedarhill Ladies will be competing in Section D at Mississippi, and they will play against the host club, Hylands and Mountain Creek on Monday, July 10th.

Please let’s keep up our efforts at maintaining a good Pace of Play, which helps to make golfing a pleasure for everybody.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding of when we take down tournament signup sheets and do draws and that there are “NO Post Entries”. Draws are now posted on the web site.

Unfortunately due to the rain and rain we had to cancel the Mixed Chapman Scramble and the Frying Pan Open. In response to many questions – we will be trying to reschedule these in the future.

There are often questions, and opinions, about Tournament Day Rules , specifically Preferred Lies or Play Golf – No Touch. The decisions are not taken lightly and involve thoughts of making it fair and enjoyable for all (and who ever said golf was supposed to be fair) and within the Rules. Sometimes we will all wonder does it matter, does a bit of mud matter and would it really make a difference. However we do try. So get ready for “no touching time”.

Enjoy your Summer - Bill Gosewitz, David Green, Laura MacHutchon, Brad Myers, Tom Bowie

GREENS COMMITTEE (Martin Wells, Chair)

The golf course is starting to take shape once again. By the time you receive this newsletter, all of last falls projects should be completed with the exception of the practice area. We would have liked to have things opened sooner but Mother Nature didn’t cooperate. However, the rain was needed and did help the course.

I am confident that the renovations that have been done are quite visible to you and that a little inconvenience sometimes is worth the final outcome. Chuck and his staff have not only improved the playability of the course, but added to the aesthetics as well.

I’d like to remind you that the following members form our committee and we welcome any thoughts or issues that you have concerning the golf course itself. They are; Scott Brewster, Michi Small, David Green, Kyle Murray and Martin Wells.

We would appreciate that any input you have be directed to us or management and not the grounds staff. This would certainly get your concerns addressed quicker and as well, allow the ground staff to stay focused on the task at hand.

We are here to help make your experience at Cedarhill enjoyable; have a great golf season.

MEN’S NIGHT COMMITTEE (Steve Bright, Chair)

Men’s Night 2006 is now in full swing!

Thursdays should be a busy night this summer with an increase of over 40 Men’s Night members this year. We are continuing to monitor our tee time bookings and may update the Men’s Night tee time booking policies as may be required with our increasing numbers.

The change in dates for Men’s Night tee time booking which was implemented in May so far has been met with approval from the majority of the membership. A reminder that tee times are now booked starting at 4:00 PM on Friday for the following week’s Men’s Night.

SENIOR MEN’S COMMITTEE (Alan Bentley, Chair)

The golf season has gotten off to a great start with 24 members participating. The course is looking great and our thanks go to Chuck and his crew for getting the course in great shape. Nice to be playing the new greens and tees.

A couple of members have been hospitalized recently. Happy to report Ed Kellow did not suffer serious injury in a car accident. We wish John Sutherland a speedy return from hospital.

Our starting times on Thursday for the rest of the season are at 8:00 a.m. so we encourage all to be on the first tee ahead of time so we can stay on schedule. Have a great summer.

DAY LADIES COMMITTEE (Robbie Dempster, Chair)

On Tuesday, May 30th we played the qualifying round of the Davis Cup – 2 Ball event. Seven teams qualified. The top three scores were the teams of Ina Griffith and Helen Handling, Liz White and Dini Nugent, and Carole Myers & Mitchi Small.

The second round will be played on Tuesday, June 20th.

BUSINESS LADIES COMMITTEE (Bev Goold, Chair)

The Ladies Night is well underway with 73 members. Thanks to our starter who is doing a great job getting all the ladies off the 1st tee each Tuesday.

Team golf began on May 23rd with 8 teams participating and will continue until September 26th. Fun events are being planned by Joanne Gosewitz along with our normal weekly tournaments. Our Pro-Shop, 50/50 draw winners have been Judy Maloney, Bernie Cannel and Connie Froats.

With only one confirmed sponsor, we are looking for anyone interested in sponsoring one of our Ladies Nights.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE (Greg Chambers, Interim Chair)

The social committee is coming off a great week for the two events that we ran. We were sold out for both events although we had a few no shows with the sub-zero weather on Victoria Day. We had a great buffet lunch and then out to play 18 holes. On Friday we had our first of many TGIF’s this year in which we ran a Mexican theme. Again with another great turnout and authentic Mexican cuisine a good time was had by all despite a few light sprinkles.

Our next event is our TGIS on Sunday June 11th. Sign-up, as always, is on the Social Bulletin Board in the lounge, closest to the Bar. Look for more upcoming events including our Road Trip and our Canada Day Celebration Shotgun.

Thanks again to all our committee members who helped out. Anyone who would like to volunteer or join the committee, please feel free to stop in at the proshop or send me a quick email.

PRO SHOP NEWS (Greg Chambers, Head Professional)

It’s good to see we are finally getting some warmer weather now and we’ll finally be getting into the swing of things. My Assistant Pat and myself will be starting up “Beat the Pro” on Ladies and Men’s Night. It’s a great way to get a few tips on your game, get any equipment questions answered, qualify for the end of the year “I Beat the Pro” tournament or just get to meet either of us. There’ll be sign-up sheets going up in the respective locker rooms soon.

Don’t forget to try the latest clubs from our demo selection as our hottest pick still continues to be our hybrids. They include a variety of manufacturers such as Ping, Cobra, Callaway and Ben Hogan. Try them out for a round or sign them out if you’re heading to the range. To make sure we don’t miss anything, we’ll be having more demo days in June, including for the first time, a Callaway night on Ladies Night.

Let’s hope all the bad weather is behind us and we’ve got a long season ahead. If you still haven’t met all the friendly staff in the Proshop, don’t be shy and stop in and say hello. See you on the tee.
