OTTAWA SUN: Golf Benefit for Jennifer
October 6, 2005
By Megan Gillis, Ottawa Sun
A Barrhaven golf club is honouring slain neighbour Jennifer Teague with a fundraiser aimed at preventing other young people from becoming victims.
Jennifer's dad, Ed Teague, will be at a $100-per-person golf day and dinner at Cedarhill Golf and Country Club Oct. 18. Proceeds will be donated to Victims of Violence, which teaches kids and youth about staying safe from predators.
Founder Gary Rosenfeldt, whose own son was murdered by Clifford Olson, distributed posters with Jennifer's photo and has comforted the Teague family.
He's never seen a bigger outpouring of support from a community than Barrhaven's for the Teagues.
"There's a lot of pain out there," he said. "Everyone wants to do something but they don't know what to do. The community needs time to heal. Something positive like this is part of the healing process."
Tickets are available at Barrhaven businesses including Cedarhill, Conley's Sobey's, Rona Warehouse, TD Canada Trust, Jack May Pontiac Buick and Wendy's, where Jennifer worked.
